Villarreal and Italy striker Giuseppe Rossi is hoping to be back in action at some point within the next six weeks.

The American-born forward has been sidelined since the autumn due to knee ligament damage which required surgery.

“I’m improving,” the former Manchester United and Parma man wrote on his Twitter account. “I hope to be ready in a month and a half.”

The 25-year-old is keen to return to action as soon as possible in a bid to prove his fitness for Euro 2012.

Rossi and Milan’s Antonio Cassano had developed into the Azzurri’s first-choice striking partnership before both were ruled out of action.

The Rossoneri fantasista hasn’t played since October after he was forced to have minor heart surgery.
