Giuseppe Rossi’s agent believes the Genoa forward can “be important” for Italy again after his much-vaunted comeback on Wednesday.

Rossi made his first appearance in Italian football for over a year when he came on during Genoa’s 2-0 Coppa Italia defeat to Juventus, and Federico Pastorello admitted watching the injury-hit attacker again “was like he was making his debut in Serie A.”

“I’m happy, if not excited, about his return,” he told Radio 24.

“It was like he was making his debut in Serie A. Giuseppe was never lacking in a technical, talent or professional sense.

“Unfortunately, his was body was, given the five operations he had. Today he’s 30 years old and reached a great level of maturity.

“In terms of footballing age, Rossi is 25-26 years old, having unfortunately played very little. I want to thank President Preziosi for taking him to Genoa.

“If he stays fit, he can be important for both his club and the national team.”
