“I always feel in good shape when on the pitch and that is the important thing,” the injury-ravaged Pepito told Sky Sport Italia.

“I never skipped a training session and that too is a positive aspect. I am happy with where I am now in fitness terms, so I’m focused on helping Levante achieve safety.

“I still follow Fiorentina and watch their games every Sunday, obviously not when I’m playing. I follow their progress on social media too. At this moment they’ve had a slight dip in form, but the season is long.”

What does the future hold for Rossi?

“I am only on loan, so I will return to Fiorentina in June. It’d be a dream to get back into the Nazionale, as it’s a jersey that gives you unique emotions and I want to feel those again.

“It’s a difficult situation, especially in time for Euro 2016, but one must always have hope.”

Tomorrow evening Fiorentina host Juventus, bringing back memories of his brace in the extraordinary 4-2 victory of 2013.

“That game was unique in the history of Florence,” confessed Rossi.

“We were behind in the first half, it was almost impossible to win against the best team in Italy, but then we found these four goals and the emotions were crazy.

“After the fourth goal from Joaquin, I could barely breathe because of the fatigue and excitement. Those 15 minutes saw fireworks, as we scored repeatedly and Neto saved us in goal. It will remain in everyone’s minds and in history too.”
