La Gazzetta dello Sport reported Cristiano Ronaldo is tempted to return to Manchester United, but what are the financial implications of a possible deal?

Ronaldo’s €31m-a-year contract at Juventus expires in June 2022. According to the Italian paper, the striker is tempted by a possible return to Old Trafford but would need to take a pay cut to make it happen.

The report claims Ronaldo is open to doing so, although he would not accept a salary below €20m-a-year. It remains to be seen whether Manchester United will be offering their former striker the money he wants.

It must be noted that the 36-year-old is also benefitting from the so-called ‘Growth decree’ that allows him to pay just €100,000 taxes on any income from abroad, such as sponsorship contracts, for example.

Juventus need to sell their star striker for at last €29m, a fee that would allow the Old Lady to make a profit from the Portuguese’s departure.

According to the report, Juventus could be interested in a swap deal with Paul Pogba.

Ronaldo joined Juventus in a €112m move in 2018 and signed a four-year contract with the Bianconeri.

The financial struggles of the top European clubs could make it difficult for Juventus to find suitors for Ronaldo, given the cost of a potential transfer.

It’s no coincidence Florentino Perez has ruled out a return of the 36-year-old to the Bernabeu.
