Former Real Madrid defender Michel Salgado admits “it would hurt” if Cristiano Ronaldo leaves for Juventus.

The Bianconeri are pushing to sign the reigning Ballon d’Or this summer, with a contract believed to be agreed already.

Now they are simply waiting to see if Los Merengues will honour a gentleman’s agreement to let CR7 leave for €100m if he doesn’t go to a direct rival.

“If he leaves, it would hurt me,” Salgado told reporters yesterday.

“Ronaldo is a player who has defined an era in Madrid and who is still defining it. I know him well, I know that when he makes a decision, he does so knowing all the consequences.

“If he doesn't leave, we still have him for his best moments. He is a monster, a phenomenon, and if he goes then we will thank him for what he has given.

“It would hurt to see him leave, but we must also understand his personal decisions and the reason for his decision.

“That the clause has been lowered worries me.”
