Ronaldo has revealed that he would “go back in time” to replay Inter’s 4-2 defeat to Lazio in May 2002, which cost them the Scudetto.

Inter were in pole position to win the Serie A title, going into the final round of the 2001-02 campaign, but a late collapse against Lazio, coupled with Juventus’ 2-0 win at Udinese, saw the Bianconeri pip Ronaldo’s side and the striker ultimately leave for Real Madrid.

“It’s an honour to be regarded as the best striker in the history of this club, given so many champions have played here,” he told Calciomercato.com during the Nerazzurri’s 110th-birthday celebrations on Friday.

“It’s here that I arrived as a young lad and it’s here that I grew up. Inter have been on a bad run, but now they have to react. There are some great players here.

“The new owners? For the fans, it’s not important. They just need Inter to win, so hopefully these owners can bring Inter back up.

“If I could go back in time, I’d like to repeat the game on May 5, when it all went wrong for us.”
