Ronaldo says it was ‘a minority who insulted me’ during Inter’s game against Sampdoria on Saturday.

The Brazilian striker was invited by former President Massimo Moratti to attend the match but was subjected to some insulting chants during the game.

The forward left the Nerazzurri on bad terms, forcing a deadline day move to Real Madrid in 2002 before returning to play for city rivals Milan in 2007.

However, the 39-year-old took the opportunity to explain his side of the story in an interview for Gazzetta dello Sport today.

However, the 39-year-old took the opportunity to explain his side of the story in an interview for Gazzetta dello Sport today.

“I didn’t expect anything, I wasn’t asking myself ‘What will happen?’ and above all I didn’t come to San Siro to see what would happen, but only because I wanted to enter that stadium again," Ronaldo told the newspaper.

“Those who insulted me on Saturday evening were a minority. However I can’t be angry with people who don’t know the truth, or have pretended not to know it.

“I wanted to come back to Inter in 2007 and told (former Inter director Marco) Branca clearly. He said that he had to speak with Moratti, I was kept waiting for more than a week because my return depended on Adriano leaving. And in the end they chose Adriano.

“I couldn’t stand Madrid any more, Milan was always in my heart and continues to be. I like it so much, I like everything. And above all: Milan came after me in the transfer market with all their power and the no from Inter hurt me.

“Everyone is convinced that they’re right in these cases and in the end I understand Moratti’s reasons too: because of this, in the end you have to forgive.

“Ambassador? It seems like quite an abstract idea. Also because I’ve always been an ambassador for Inter, even now, with no contractual commitments. There are many ways of renewing a relationship with Inter, beyond affection.”
