Former Inter striker Ronaldo insists the club “are in my heart” and regrets asking Massimo Moratti "to sack Hector Cuper or I would leave".

Ronaldo spent five years with the Nerazzurri, scoring 59 goals in 99 appearances before leaving for Real Madrid in 2002.

While he concedes that the club still mean a lot to him, he admits forcing former President Massimo Moratti to pick between him and Coach Hector Cuper wasn’t the right approach.

“Inter are in my heart and they will be forever,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “Those were five beautiful years of my life, in a city that I learned to love, with people that always loved me.

“I have love for Milan and for Inter that I believe will remain forever.

“I have to say that Massimo Moratti is a strong inspiration for me, an inspiration because he taught me so much.

“I would do a few things differently from my time at Inter, I wouldn’t put President Moratti in a difficult position to decide my future.

“That moment in which I asked him to sack Cuper or I would leave. Moratti decided to keep Cuper. So I wouldn’t do that again, I would rather try to get my point across in another way in that situation.”

Ronaldo, who is now majority owner of Real Valladolid, also spoke about crossing the divide in Milan, joining the Rossoneri for a brief spell in 2006.

“I was very happy at Milan,” he added. “I learned a lot and I got to know an incredible club. The Milan fans welcomed me and treated me really well.

“So there isn’t a team where I regretted going to.”
