The 27-year-old joined the Bianconeri from Verona in the summer on an initial loan deal, but has played just 98 minutes this season across all competitions.

Romulo, who can also play at right-back, has been out for most of the season with a recurring groin injury, but his representative says he’s ready to make a comeback.

“Physically he’s fine, there’s no more pain,” Alex Firmino told Tuttomercatoweb.

“I think he can get back onto the pitch before the end of the season, though of course that’s down to the Coach [Max Allegri].

“He no longer has pain or discomfort, he’s done great work in Brazil and on Sunday will return to Italy.”

Under the terms of the initial transfer, the Old Lady would have been obliged to buy Romulo for €6m had he played 60 per cent of their games.

That target will not be met before the end of the season, but could he still end up at Juventus?

“I can’t say anything, that’s up to [directors of the respective clubs] [Sean] Sogliano and [Giuseppe] Marotta.

“Personally I think Romulo has everything it takes to be a Juventus player. In any case, he’s a good person and a good footballer.

“In any case, it’s a new start for him.”
