After confirming that the outfit are close to signing centre-back Leandro Castan, 25, from Corinthians, he spoke about midfield targets.
“Work for Michael Bradley of Chievo is well underway and I want to make it clear that his capture is not a marketing ploy,” Sabatini, who was hired after the American takeover last year, noted.
“Bradley is a pragmatic player, one sure of himself, who knows how to play and knows how to win. I will be honoured if we complete his signing.”
Roma have also been linked with Genoa’s Panagiotis Tachtsidis, a midfielder who impressed on loan at Verona last term.
“Tachtsidis was a request from Coach Zdenek Zeman and I trust him,” Sabatini explained. “He told me that he wants to turn the player into a champion.
“He can pass the ball, he has a good left-foot and Zeman wants to transform him into a quicker player.”
Roma are also taking an active interest in Siena striker Mattia Destro, an Under-21 international who is co-owned with Genoa.
“He is a player who Siena and Genoa both want and they are in discussions. For now, we are just watching but we will be ready to intervene if the opportunity arises.”
Sabatini added that controversial striker Pablo Osvaldo will remain, a new right-back would arrive and that Torino’s Angelo Ogbonna would not be signed.
“There is not a lot available on the Italian market,” he responded when asked about why he’s buying foreign. “The little that is out there is hard to get.
“Ogbonna, for example, is too expensive. Paying what they want for a player who is coming from Serie B is a little excessive.”
Roma had a difficult campaign under Luis Enrique last term and actually ended the season without qualifying for Europe.
“It is clear that the Champions League is an objective, but our aim is to build a strong team. We will be competitive.”
