Monchi reportedly threatened Roma fans that he would ‘take on each of you one by one’ before boarding a flight back to the Italian capital, and the sporting director is now sorry for his remarks.

“I’ve read that my words were reported incorrectly,” he wrote on Instagram.

“It’s true that there was a moment when emotions ran high because of the huge disappointment that we all experienced.

“I apologise to all the fans and, in particular, those present at the airport. Forza Roma!!”
