“It’s the best way to celebrate my birthday with a win,” smiled Romagnoli on RAI Sport.

“We had several scoring opportunities and in the end managed to get the victory. We don’t give up, we won’t let anything go.”

Despite the fatigue, Milan celebrated wildly at the winning Hakan Calhanoglu penalty and were excited about setting up a quarter-final with Inter or Fiorentina.

Milan are back in action this weekend against Cagliari in Serie A and, with a three-point lead at the top, are closing in on the title of Winter Champions.

“There’s a long way to go in the season, so we have to take it one game at a time. Now we’ve got Cagliari, then Atalanta. We’ll try to give our all, as always.”
