Nainggolan is set to join Inter in a €24m deal that includes Primavera starlet Nicolo Zaniolo and full-back Davide Santon, and the Belgian midfielder expressed his delight at reuniting with Luciano Spalletti, even if ‘it was Roma who wanted to sell me’.

“I’ll always carry the Giallorossi colours and fans in my heart, but it was the club who wanted to sell me,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I’ll always carry every moment I’ve lived through with these colours in my heart. I leave Roma after giving everything in these wonderful seasons.

“Inter really wanted me, more than anyone else. I can only thank them. I’ll find a great Coach in Spalletti and I’m happy to work with him again.

“I want to thank every fan for the seasons we had together. They always supported me and showed great affection. I’ll never forget it.

“Leaving wasn’t my idea, it was a decision made by the club but one that I respected.”
