It has been known for several weeks that Napoli had a deal in place to sign Veretout for approximately €20m, but the Partenopei have focused more on other areas of the team and put it on the backburner.

According to Sky Sport Italia, following on from L’Equipe reporting, Roma have entered negotiations for the 26-year-old and are making good progress.

Arsenal and Sevilla are interested too, but so far only observing rather than making a genuine offer.

It’s believed new Roma Coach Paulo Fonseca would appreciate Veretout’s characteristics in his style of football and he is considerably cheaper than first choice, Donny van de Beek of Ajax.
