Roma are attempting to coax Thomas Vermaelen from Barcelona for around €10m.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Giallorossi have set their sights on the Belgium international.
The 30-year-old centre-back is wanted for his versatility, as Luciano Spalletti is considering a three-man defence next season.
Vermaelen left Arsenal for Barcelona in 2014 for approximately €19m.
