Roma are pressing for Barcelona's Thomas Vermaelen, whilst also keeping an open door for Real Madrid's Nacho.

There are some conflicting reports on how negotiations are being conducted. According to Tuttosport, Sabatini is attempting to lower the established price of €15m ahead of buying the player outright.

But La Gazzetta dello Sport believes that the director's objective is to take the player on loan. The Blaugrana would like to give the player away with an obligation to buy for €10-12m, while Sabatini is trying to make the purchase clause only optional.

Both newspapers agree that an open door is being left for Nacho, who remains Roma's primary alternative to Vermaelen.
