Roma have decided not to sign Thomas Vermaelen from Barcelona permanently, according to reports.

The centre-back joined the Giallorossi on loan last summer with an option to buy, but he has struggled with injury throughout his time in Serie A.

The 31-year-old has made just four League starts all season, with only three starts in Europe across the Champions League and Europa League.

Tuttomercatoweb is therefore reporting that the Lupi have decided not to take up their option on Vermaelen, so he will return to Barça at the end of the season.
