Rudi Garcia wants “11 wolves” on the pitch for Roma in the crucial Champions League tie with BATE Borisov.

The Giallorossi will progress to the Last 16 with a win at Stadio Olimpico tomorrow, and a draw would be enough provided Bayer Leverkusen don’t beat Barcelona.

However, the French tactician is calling for a win from his team, using a play on the club’s Lupi [wolves] nickname.

“I’m only thinking about winning, and tomorrow we’ll win,” Garcia told journalists in his pre-match Press conference.

“There’s nothing else to say or do, we can’t rely on a draw between Barcelona and Bayer. That’s not the right attitude.

“We must have a fierce desire. These qualification games don’t come along very often for this club, and we want to have more in the future.

“As I said after a few games, at least Roma are never boring. Tomorrow there’s nothing to think about, we have to play the match in the right way.

“We have to show on the pitch that 11 wolves will start, three more can come on, and there will be 18 on the bench including all the staff to make sure we achieve our first goal of the season, which is qualifying for the knockout stages.”

Roma have gone four games without a win in all competitions, but Garcia calls for calm with over half the season still to play.

“A team with fear wouldn’t go to Torino and press high up. Before the international break, which doesn’t seem like another era, Roma had won the derby and everything was beautiful and fantastic.

“Now after two or three games it’s ugly and poor. My job is to create balance.

“The season is still long, but tomorrow is a game with no do-overs, and we want to win.”
