Roma President James Pallotta analyses the club’s season, and believes Rudi Garcia’s squad must be fitter next term.

The Lupi suffered a collapse in the second half of the season, eventually finishing in second place, 17 points behind Juventus.

“The physical preparation wasn’t enough,” Pallotta explained in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.

“After an hour, the team had no more energy, they were struggling. Football is not basketball, or even baseball which has a lot of breaks.

“In football you have to run for ninety minutes.

“We’ll change the staff in charge of athletic training, it will be a radical change: five staff of the highest level, including a nutritionist.”

What does the President believe was the key moment of the Giallorossi’s season?

“The defeat against Bayern. Losing 7-1 is one thing, being defeated 2-1 is another. The battering from the German team took away security and conviction.

“We never recovered. The Coach [Rudi Garcia] made mistakes in the game management during that match.

“The other decisive moment was the draw in Moscow, had we won against CSKA we’d have gone through in the Champions League.”
