Roma have finally reached an agreement with Ajax for goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg, according to reports.

Giallorossi sporting director Walter Sabatini held further talks with the Dutch club yesterday after an unsuccessful round of talks last week.

After Roma's initial €5m bid was rejected, the Italian outfit improved their offer and a compromise was reached.

Whispers suggest that the Eternal City outfit will hand over €6m to Ajax, but that fee could increase by a further €2m depending on bonus clauses.

The Dutch international will sign a four-year contract worth €1.5m a campaign at the Stadio Olimpico.

Stekelenburg will be the club's new first choice after the sale of Alexander Doni to Liverpool. Julio Sergio is also set to leave for Lecce this week.

An official Stekelenburg announcement could be made at some point on Tuesday.
