There is more bad injury news for Roma, as Rick Karsdorp has torn the meniscus in his knee and will go under the knife.

The 27-year-old wing-back made five appearances so far this season between Serie A and the Europa League.

He skipped the 2-1 Serie A win away to Empoli and returned to play in the Europa League against HJK Helsinki on Thursday.

Tests have now shown a tear to the internal meniscus in his left knee.

A statement from the club confirms Karsdorp will have surgery at the Klinik Gut in St Moritz, under the guidance of Doctor Georg Ahlbaumber.

The 27-year-old Dutch international is expected to be out of action for circa six weeks.

Karsdorp has a long history of injury problems, including a torn anterior cruciate ligament in October 2017.

He has three senior caps for the Netherlands, but none since 2017, so was unlikely to be in the 2022 World Cup squad anyway.
