Barcelona have been charged by UEFA in relation to fan incidents during their 4-1 Champions League victory over Roma on Wednesday.

The night ended on a sour note for Roma’s opponents as a group of their fans threw yellow balloons on to the Camp Nou pitch.

The throwing of the balloons was seen as an act of protest towards the Spanish government for imprisoning Catalan politicians.

Pagine Romaniste explains the initiative had been promoted by the Catalan Committees for the Defence of the Republic on social media.

UEFA, meanwhile, claims its disciplinary regulations have been broken by the incident, and the organisation’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body will meet on May 31 to determine a punishment.

The second leg of Roma’s quarter-final with Barca will be played at the Olimpico on Tuesday.
