With Thomas Vermaelen’s injury, Roma have reportedly asked Real Madrid to take Nacho Fernandez on loan in January.

Although Luciano Spalletti denied reports that Vermaelen could need surgery for a sports hernia, the fact remains he hasn’t played since the start of September and there’s the very real risk of a relapse.

It’s rumoured the Giallorossi could send him back to Barcelona six months early into his loan spell.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, Roma have contacted Real Madrid to ask after the availability of defender Nacho Fernandez.

It’s certainly not the first time they have been in talks for this defender, as he was a strong target over the summer.

Nacho is frustrated at the lack of playing time at the Bernabeu and could push for this move.
