The first leg ended 5-2 at Anfield, meaning the Giallorossi need a 3-0 home victory to go through – the same situation they were in during the quarter-finals with Barcelona.

“I've never played in Italy before but I know it will be intense there,” said Scotland international Robertson in the Liverpool Echo.

“We saw the scenes after the Barcelona game – the Roma fans were out on the streets afterwards – and I think they'll try to make it intense.

“They were 4-1 down from the first leg and everyone was saying it was just a standard game for Barcelona to go through, but they put on an unbelievable performance at their place to put three goals past one of the best, if not the best, teams in Europe.

“To score four goals against Barcelona over two legs is fantastic, but we also know what we did in our tie.”

Roma can rely on one potentially crucial factor, as they have not conceded a single goal at home in the Champions League this season, keeping five clean sheets against the likes of Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Shakhtar Donetsk and Barcelona.

On the other hand, Liverpool have found the net at least twice in five of their six away fixtures in Europe, along with a 1-1 draw at Spartak Moscow in the group phase.

“We got the better of Manchester City by beating them twice, so I think both teams will treat each other in the right way, but hopefully we can stand up to their strengths and exploit their weaknesses.”
