Former Roma and Bayern Munich player Ruggiero Rizzitelli believes Rudi Garcia's men can’t be evaluated based on their defeat to the Germans.

The Giallorossi were humbled 7-1 at home by the German champions in the third matchday of the Champions League group stage, but Rizzitelli sees the game as a one-off.

“You can’t analyse a match like this,” the retired striker has told the Gazzetta Dello Sport.

“Roma didn’t show up, so it’s difficult to give an opinion on the game and on individuals.

“Although they lost heavily, you can have games like this.

“Against [Manchester] City, another of Europe’s biggest sides, we saw a very different team.”

When the team’s 10-game winning streak was ended at the start of last season, the Giallorossi then drew four games in a row, but Rizzitelli does not believe last night’s setback will have a similar reaction.

“The message that the fans gave by applauding the team at the end suggests that this year everyone is together.

“It’s a harsh thing to say, but it’s better to concede seven goals at once rather than two at a time across different games.”
