Before kick-off in the first game of the penultimate round of fixtures for the 2022-23 Serie A season, Tomas Rincon apologised to Sampdoria supporters for the team’s performances on the pitch, which have ultimately led to the club’s relegation from the top flight for the first time since 2010-11.

The Venezuela international acknowledged the fact that it had been a difficult year on and off the pitch, but insisted that the team need to finish the season ‘with dignity’ in their last two fixtures of the domestic season.

The veteran midfielder went on to thank the Samp fans for their unwavering support over the course of the year, and was adamant that the team will be able to restore their ‘deserving’ place in Serie A before long.

Speaking to DAZN before kick-off against Sassuolo, Rincon said: “We have an obligation to finish the season with dignity at home. I thank all the fans who have given us their support in a difficult year.

“I’m sorry we didn’t manage to achieve our goal which was to stay in Serie A. We lost a lot of points at home, there is anger and we hope this team can soon return to where it deserves to be.”
