The loan deals for the Juventus players currently out on loan in the Premier League are set to expire in the coming weeks, but the futures of Dejan Kulusevski and Weston McKennie are set for opposing outcomes.
Kulusevski joined Tottenham on an initial 18-month loan deal in January 2022 with a conditional option to buy clause written into his contract, however, one of the conditions that would have made his permanent signing obligatory was qualification for the Champions League, which Spurs have failed to achieve this season.
That said, even without Champions League football, Tottenham are still entitled to go through with the permanent signing of Kulusevski if they choose to.
However, despite Spurs’ disappointing 2022-23 season, Kulusevski has continually performed well when called upon and is still highly thought of in North London.
According to Tuttopsort, Juventus are still confident that a fee close to the originally agreed €35m will be received, money, which the outlet writes, could be a godsend to Kulusevski’s parent club back in Turin.
The same, however, cannot be said for McKennie, whose temporary switch to Leeds United has not gone as well as initially hoped.
The Yorkshiremen now require a minor miracle in the final game of the season, coincidentally against Tottenham, if they are to hold onto their Premier League status.
If they are to avoid the drop, Leeds also require Everton to lose on the final day and for 18th-placed Leicester not to win their game against Conference League finalists West Ham.
Tuttosport reports that the United States international is almost guaranteed to return to Turin in the summer at this point, after failing to make a serious impression since moving to England in January.
McKennie is reported to be well liked among the Juve locker room, but was never able to find consistent minutes in the starting line-up under Massimiliano Allegri. Either way, the originally negotiated fee with Leeds, thought also to be in the region of €35m, is very unlikely to be paid.
