Mateo Retegui hopes to be part of Italy’s Euro 2024 squad and is ‘working hard’ to convince Luciano Spalletti and end the season in the top 10 with Genoa.

Retegui converted an early penalty kick for Genoa in an away 3-3 draw against Milan on Sunday.

“We knew it would be a difficult game. We started well, and now we are returning home with an important point,” the Italy international told DAZN.

“I thank the coach and all the fans who came here and supported us. I am really happy.”

Alberto Gilardino has recently announced his contract extension with the Grifone.

“We are happy; it’s great news. Three games are remaining, and we want to finish in the top 10,” said Retegui.

Retegui still unsure over Euro 2024 place with Italy

The Argentine-born striker netted twice during the international break in March, but he is not sure to be part of the Azzurri squad at Euro 2024.

“I dream of playing it because there are other strong players and I am working hard to be part of the team,” the striker concluded.
