Inter captain Lautaro Martinez insists he wants to extend his contract with the Nerazzurri and feels his compatriot Leao Messi plays a ‘different sport’ in training.

Inter star striker Lautaro Martinez, the current Serie A leading scorer, wants to extend with the Serie A giants.

Speaking with the Italian TV program Che Tempo Che Fa, one of the most famous in the country, the Argentinean striker said: “They say I am a Bandiera, and everyone has treated me in a special way since I arrived. I am grateful. You never know what can happen in football, but surely I am happy in Milan and I want to extend.”

El Toro has twice won the Serie A title with Inter and reached a Champions League Final with the Nerazzurri last year. Two weeks ago, on April 22, Inter beat Milan in a derby della Madonnina, becoming Serie A champions for 2023-24.

Lautaro Martinez wants to ‘extend’ with Inter

“We suffered two years ago when Milan won the title, so that [April 22] was a special day for us,” he continued.

“We’ve had an extraordinary journey. There are players with strong values. It’s not easy to reach a [Champions League] final, but we played great games and we got there [last season].”

Lautaro contributed to reaching the Champions League Final last season by scoring a goal against Milan in the second leg of the semifinal: “It was my most important goal,” the Argentina international admitted.

As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Lautaro continued by talking about his relationship with Diego Milito, Leo Messi and his next targets at Inter.

Lautaro Martinez makes Messi admission

“Milito gave me great help. I replaced him at Racing and he taught me so much,” said Lautaro.

“I am Messi’s friend and teammate. We are talking about an important player who has made history in football. It feels like he’s playing a different sport in training sessions. He does things that I’ve never seen before. He is a competition animal, and he never wants to lose.”

Lautaro’s contract with Inter runs out in 2026 and the 26-year-old has clear ideas about his next targets at San Siro: “Only the Champions League is missing,” he concluded.
