It had been claimed that Atleti were ready to hijack Napoli’s deal for James but, as Mundo Deportivo writes, the Real Madrid midfielder is not on their list of targets.

The newspaper goes on to explain that a move across Madrid ‘borders on impossible’ as Los Blancos are not prepared to risk seeing their once-star signing shine for Diego Simeone’s side.

However, more importantly for Napoli, talks to take the Colombian to the San Paolo would be ‘very much on track’.

That has been echoed by Il Mattino, which expects this week to be ‘decisive’.

The Neapolitan publication notes the 27-year-old has already agreed a €6.5m salary with the Partenopei and that his agent Jorge Mendes is ready to work with Madrid to close the transfer.
