According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, sporting director Walter Sabatini has agreed terms with Stuttgart for the defender.

While the exact amounts have not been released, it is believed that Rudiger will come on a loan deal with an optional purchase clause.

The actual purchase will be contingent on the player's being called up a minimum number of times.

The option works as an insurance for Roma, as the player is recovering from knee surgery and his levels of fitness are not entirely certain yet.
