Roma are reportedly targeting a move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Hector Herrera, but have to sell first.

The Giallorossi are not able to reinforce unless they get rid of some of the players in the squad, but Sky Sport Italia reports Herrera has been targeted in the event of a sale.

The Rojiblancos midfielder has been linked with Serie A previously and the two parties have already established talks, possibly including Gonzalo Villar in the negotiation.

The 31-year-old, capped 85 times by Mexico, arrived on a free transfer from FC Porto in July 2019 and has since played 51 competitive games with Atleti.

His contract in the Spanish capital expires in June 2022 and Roma are monitoring his situation but are not in advanced talks due to their own financial situation, which requires someone to leave before being able to sign a new player.

Roma advanced to the group stage of the UEFA Europa Conference League yesterday, with a 5-1 win on aggregate over Trabzonspor.
