Roma will reportedly target Fiorentina winger Federico Chiesa this summer, but his arrival could be linked to Nicolo Zaniolo’s fate.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Roma tried to sign Chiesa last year and were prepared to offer Stephan El Shaarawy in exchange, but Fiorentina pulled out of negotiations.

The newspaper writes the Giallorossi will go back in for the 21-year-old but only once they are certain of Champions League qualification, plus their Coach and sporting director.

The newspaper writes the Giallorossi will go back in for the 21-year-old but only once they are certain of Champions League qualification, plus their Coach and sporting director.

That is because the Italy starlet would be valued at ‘no less than €70-80m’ so the Lupi could be forced to sell Nicolo Zaniolo, even if signs a new contract.

The 19-year-old has developed into a key player for Roma and Il Corriere notes he will put pen to paper on an extension until 2024 worth €2m a season plus bonuses.

However, while the intention is to keep him for ‘at least another campaign’, it is warned the uncertainty at the Olimpico means ‘no-one can write the story so far in advance’.

The publication claims Manchester City and Real Madrid have already set their sights on the midfielder.
