According to the Mirror, Milan enquired about Lookman but were told ‘firmly’ by Everton that the 21-year-old was not for sale.

Nonetheless, the newspaper expects the Rossoneri to ‘test the resolve’ of the Toffees with a formal offer before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

Lookman was part of the England side who won the Under-20 World Cup in 2017 and spent the second half of last season on loan at RB Leipzig, where he scored five goals in just 11 appearances.

It comes after Watford issued the Rossoneri an ultimatum of paying €25m plus bonuses by Tuesday for Gerard Deulofeu.
