Sampdoria have got the green light from Manchester United to loan their Italy Under-21 international striker Federico Macheda, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Macheda has made just two starting appearances in the Premier League for United this season and needs regular first team football if he is to make progress.

A number of Italian teams have expressed an interest in the 19-year-old, most notably Lazio, the club with whom he started his fledgling career.

However, La Gazzetta understands Sampdoria have beaten the competition, agreeing to loan Macheda until the end of the season.

The Blucerchiati will reportedly not have an option to sign the player at the end of that agreement as Sir Alex Ferguson still considers him part of United's long-term future.
