Manchester United starlet Federico Macheda is on the verge of completing a loan move to Sampdoria, his agent has confirmed.

The teenager was linked with Doria this morning and Giovanni Bia has admitted that talks are almost complete.

"We should be approaching the finishing line," he told Sky Sport Italia. "Hopefully it can all be wrapped up this evening.

"The plan is for a six month loan deal even if the situation will be assessed with Manchester United again at the end of term.

"The plan is for a six month loan deal even if the situation will be assessed with Manchester United again at the end of term.

"I'm 99.9 per cent sure that he will go back to United at that stage, but if the player needs another year in Italy then Sampdoria will have a kind of option on him."

Although United are temporarily letting go of Macheda, Bia insists that the Premiership giants have real belief in the Under-21 international striker.

"Sir Alex Ferguson has told me that he thinks Macheda could become one of the top 10 players in Europe," Bia continued.

"We are still talking about a boy who is only 19, but Ferguson is rarely wrong about these things."
