Juventus have reportedly gone back in for Atletico Madrid defender Josema Gimenez – but it could have ramifications for Daniele Rugani.

Corriere dello Sport claims Juve are monitoring Gimenez ‘carefully’, with the Uruguayan not a starter in Diego Simeone’s team.

However, the newspaper warns he will not come cheap, given he is considered the heir to countryman Diego Godin, has a €60m release clause and has two more years left on his contract.

Furthermore, any deal would represent a blow for Rugani, who is already faced with the threat of being leapfrogged by Mattia Caldara next season.

The 23-year-old, who has yet to establish himself in the Juve XI, is being courted by ‘top European clubs’, according to his agent.
