With Higuain pushing to leave towards Juventus or Arsenal, the Partenopei are forced to look for a suitable alternative.

According to Calciomercato.it, Icardi and his entourage were contacted by Napoli director of sport Cristiano Giuntoli.

His response was to leave the door open to a potential move to the Stadio San Paolo.

Icardi’s results are clear to see, scoring 52 goals in 105 competitive games for Inter.

The 23-year-old is under contract with Inter until June 2019, but his wife Wanda Nara – who also acts as his agent – gave a series of interviews this week claiming he was on the market and was unhappy at the lack of a wage increase.

His price-tag would be in the region of €50m and he’s also wanted by Atletico Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur.

Napoli have suggested they won’t negotiate for Higuain, but can do little if someone activates his €94m release clause.
