There are reports that Genoa have abandoned their bid for Wigan's Mauro Boselli after he failed a medical.

The 25-year-old flew in to Italy today to complete his transfer on loan with the right to buy at the end of the season.

However, according to Telenord, Boselli failed this evening's medical due to an 8mm muscular lesion.

Genoa are reportedly refusing to sign the player under the agreed terms and more news is expected tomorrow.

It would be the second time this week that Genoa have pulled out of a transfer following the medical exams.

Mauro Formica was meant to join from Newell's Old Boys, but he was turned away after his tests.

"The Formica deal fell through and it was partly our fault," President Enrico Preziosi told Sky Italia television. "However, we are looking at other possibilities.”
