There are growing reports that Marcelo Bielsa’s delays are because he will reject the Lazio job to take over Argentina.

The Coach was supposed to have agreed terms with Lazio weeks ago, but pre-season training begins this week and there is still no sign of him.

There are growing reports that Marcelo Bielsa’s delays are because he will reject the Lazio job to take over Argentina.

The Coach was supposed to have agreed terms with Lazio weeks ago, but pre-season training begins this week and there is still no sign of him.

While some reports this morning suggested he’d arrive on Thursday, this evening the situation became bleaker.

It’s increasingly rumoured that Bielsa has no intention of flying out to join Lazio, especially after Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino resigned from the Argentina job a month before the Olympics.

Bielsa, who already had that role from 1998 to 2004, is the hot favourite to replace Martino following the Copa America Final defeat to Chile.

The reports are that Bielsa was increasingly irritated by the lack of transfer activity from Lazio and doesn’t trust President Claudio Lotito to keep those promises.

Sky Sport Italia suggest he did not pick up his work visa at the Italian embassy in Buenos Aires and hasn’t even faxed over the signed contract to Lazio.

If that were the case, the club would be left without a tactician and a rather embarrassing situation on their hands.

The most likely candidate would then be Cesare Prandelli, who had agreed terms with Lazio before they opted for Bielsa instead.
