Genoa are reportedly ready to replace Davide Ballardini at the helm of the Grifone and have lined up Andriy Shevchenko as his successor.
Sky Sport Italia and SportItalia report the Rossoblu have decided to sack Ballardini after the 2-2 draw with newly promoted Empoli on Friday.
The reports claim former Milan striker Shevchenko has been targeted as his replacement and will be offered a two-year deal with an option for a third at Marassi.
Shevchenko, who retired as a player in 2012, recently stepped down from the position as head coach of the Ukranian national team.
The 45-year-old has experience in Serie A with two stints at Milan, helping the club win the Champions League and the Coppa Italia in 2002-03, before winning the Scudetto and the Supercoppa Italiana in the two following years.
Shevchenko was awarded the Ballon d’Or in 2004 and was the leading goalscorer in Serie A two times with 24 goals in 1999-00 and 2003-04.
#Ballardini esonero ormai scritto come raccontato alle 23,05 su #Sportitalia. Glielo comunicheranno in nottata. Il #Genoa ha contattato #Pirlo che ha chiesto tempo e vuole aspettare. #Shevchenko idea forte

Interesting opportunity for Sheva. May be a good idea to try his hand at a smaller team first, but failure here may also mean he’ll never get a chance at a top team
Interesting development!
Hmm… interesting!
I really hope Sheva does well and makes it big in Serie A, maybe eventually coach Milan someday.
He was the first non-Italian player that I fell in love with. What a player!
@milan fan
Not Rui Costa?
No it was Shevchenko for me. I really loved him as a player. I remember every week I would count the days to see him score with his number 7 on his back.
Good times.
Good call @milan fan
Like I said it was Rui Costa for me that made me lose interest in English football and start watching serie a.
Loved inzaghi sr as well. Thankfully serie a had recovered from the post calciopoli dirge and has some exciting talents across the teams.
Liking brahim diaz at present. Shame Hague left, thought he was a cool cat
@Jon
Agreed. Nesta was another favorite of mine. He completely changed my perspective on the number 13 haha
In the current team, I like Tonali more and more everyday, while Hauge was exciting and it was a shame he had to leave.
