Atalanta are reportedly hoping to bolster their options in midfield with a move for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria.

The Switzerland international played two games at the Euros this summer and has impressed during his four years in the German Bundesliga.

The 24-year-old arrived from Young Boys in July 2017 and has a contract until June 2022 with Gladbach.

Sky Sport Italia reports Gian Piero Gasperini and Atalanta hope to take advantage of his contractual situation and have entered talks with the Germans over a possible move already this summer.

The Orobici have already brought in Juan Musso for the goal and Merih Demiral to replace Cristian Romero in defence, and are now targeting the versatile midfielder, who can also play in defence.

Zakaria has played 128 times with Borussia Mönchengladbach and has contributed nine goals in the process.

Atalanta have qualified for the Champions League for the third time in a row and Zakaria could be a useful signing, due to his experience in the competition.

But Zakaria’s value is increasing, and the two clubs are yet to reach an agreement over the transfer fee for the Switzerland international, capped 34 times by his country.
