According to Il Mattino newspaper, De Laurentiis decided to take a novel approach by entering the locker rooms just minutes before the team went out to play Juventus at the Stadio San Paolo.

As part of a motivational speech, he turned to Insigne and loudly asked him to get on with signing a new contract.

It’s reported Insigne replied in front of his teammates that he and his agent had made their conditions clear some time ago.

The discussion apparently went on for quite a while, but had to be cut short because the Napoli squad ran out for the warm-up.

Insigne is asking for €3.5m per season wages, but he wants the image rights included, whereas Napoli famously resist all attempts by players to keep their image rights.
