“There was an exchange of opinions with the directors and then we sorted it out. I realise it doesn’t happen every day that a Coach resigns when in third place, but I was coming off the 5-1 defeat to Palermo and was a little tense, so reacted that way.
“Our ambition was to improve what we did last season, which wasn’t easy, but the club worked well on the transfer market and we’re on track,” he said of the 2-1 victory over Roma.
“There is a long way to go, we’re currently in a good position and I hope the team can maintain this concentration now that we’re no longer in Europe. Above all, we must try to recover physically.
“We prepared the game in a certain way and did not change our balance when Roma went down to 10 men, as if your side is balanced then sooner or later you’ll have the chances to win.
“We had four or five great scoring opportunities, although with a one-goal lead towards the end we were a little tense, as Roma have the players to turn things around at any moment.
“We won and that is what counts. I would change the rule of the straight red card for a goalkeeper, as it's too damaging for the teams. I'd prefer a yellow card and penalty instead.”
