FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio says Serie A needs to be returned to an 18-team League to help the Italian national team.
The Italian top flight was expanded to 20 teams for the 2004-05 season, and has maintained that number ever since.
However, after Azzurri CT Antonio Conte was forced to cancel planned get-togethers for his Italy squad, Tavecchio says the previous format needs to return.
“In order to achieve the desired results we must reform the Leagues,” the President said outside of a meeting on goal-line technology.

“If we don’t bring the League down to 18 teams, there will always be a lack of time for meet-ups.”
