According to reports in Germany, Ralf Rangnick is ready to join Milan after Red Bull appointed a new Head of Global Soccer.

Although Rangnick’s current role is Head of Sport and Development at Red Bull, the position that German news agency Dpa claims Oliver Mintzlaff has been given is very similar in scope.

It would effectively pave the way for Rangnick to leave Red Bull and take on the unusual role of manager at Milan.

It would effectively pave the way for Rangnick to leave Red Bull and take on the unusual role of manager at Milan.

This is manager in the Premier League sense, similar to how Sir Alex Ferguson ran Manchester United for many years, giving Rangnick powers not just as a coach, but over scouting, transfer strategy and choosing staff.

Although Paolo Maldini was visibly irritated at the comments from Rangnick about considering a job from Milan, it has been clear since Zvonimir Boban’s outburst that the club hierarchy had contacted the German.

His last coaching job was at RB Leipzig in 2015-16 and again in 2018-19.
