Reports in Spain claim Mauro Icardi is open to joining Real Madrid, but Inter want to give him a new contract.

The Nerazzurri captain has a €110m release clause in his current deal, a figure which isn’t unreachable in the current market.

According to Marca, the Spanish champions are increasingly alarmed by their start to the season, and could look to make a big move in January.

The newspaper claims that Icardi is open to moving to the Bernabeu, and he’s top of the Merengues’ shortlist as he could play in the Champions League.

However, the Beneamata are looking to tie their star striker to a new contract, raising his salary from €5m per season to €7m per season.

Inter would look to raise the release clause at the same time, or perhaps eliminate it altogether.

For his part, Icardi has been consistent in his desire to stay with the Nerazzurri, saying last week “you know how I feel, there’s nothing to say”.
