“When a Coach leaves, there are clearly many things that didn’t work, but I honestly can’t say what was most to blame. The fact is we have no more alibis, from the kit staff to the top director.

“We have got to stay united and listen to the Coach, as there isn’t much time. We’ve got to spit blood out there.

“Southampton are a strong side and we must be ready for anything the game throws at us. Tomorrow is an opportunity for all of us to show what we can do and play with heart.”

There are several candidates to take over, including Stefano Pioli, Marcelino and Guus Hiddink. Is Ranocchia hoping for an Italian or foreign Coach?

“I am hoping for what is best for Inter.”
