Temporary Inter Coach Stefano Vecchi is expected to adopt a new 4-4-1-1 system with Ever Banega behind Mauro Icardi against Southampton.

Frank de Boer was sacked on Monday and Primavera youth team boss Vecchi promoted as caretaker.

His debut is on Thursday evening at St Mary’s, having beaten Southampton 1-0 at San Siro with an Antonio Candreva volley.

According to multiple reports, Vecchi is preparing a tactical revolution from De Boer’s favoured 4-3-3 to 4-4-1-1.

Banega, repeatedly benched by the Dutchman, is set to be in the hole behind lone striker Icardi.

It’s not all defensive, though, as Ivan Perisic goes wide left of midfield and Candreva on the left.

Gary Medel will start, as he is sitting out a three-match Serie A ban, whereas Assane Gnoukouri steps in for suspended Marcelo Brozovic.

Joao Mario, Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa and Geoffrey Kondogbia are ineligible for the Europa League, while Stevan Jovetic is injured.

Andrea Ranocchia could be given room in the back four.

Inter probable: Handanovic; D’Ambrosio, Ranocchia, Miranda, Nagatomo; Candreva, Medel, Gnoukouri, Perisic; Banega; Icardi
