Claudio Ranieri is glad to see Roma “are enjoying themselves” and can find success even when resting stars.

“Just four rounds ago we were in a pretty bad situation, but now we're five points off the top,” smiled the Coach after a 3-2 victory against Fiorentina.

“The important thing is to keep on doing what we're doing now, in other words fighting with determination. We got through a difficult start and I hope we carry on.

“The lads are also enjoying themselves, so that is crucial too. I have players in this squad that allow me to rest other stars, which playing every three days is an imperative.

“We rested Mirko Vucinic because he hadn't trained since the derby. I saw him today for the warm-up, he really is a lovely guy and he'll train when he can.”

Former Chelsea and Valencia manager Ranieri then explained why stress is behind many Serie A injuries.

“It's nothing to do with the tempo or the fixture list, as in England they play faster and have even more games, but they don't have this stress on their players.

“In Italy there is a whole other season that is played between games. There is much more pressure and so the lads go on to the field with tense muscles.

“Every nation has its own way of experiencing football. I have worked in Spain and in England, so I can tell you for a fact there is less stress in the Premier League. In fact, in England they have more vigorous tackling, but don't get as many injuries.”
